Editing Template:Further interlanguage link/doc

This template is used to link to articles containing further information on a topic, where English Wikipedia does not yet have an article, but [[Help:Interwiki linking|another language Wikipedia does]]. It looks like this:

It is typically used at the top of a section, when the topic of that section is covered in more detail by a page on [[List of Wikipedias|another Wikipedia]]. It combines the features of {{tl|Further}} and {{tl|Interlanguage link}}, and provides one of the chief advantages of [[wikipedia:WP:REDLINK|red links]] by pointing out a topic where English Wikipedia doesn't yet have an article, while pointing out where such information is readily available.

Once the article on English Wikipedia is created, the interwiki links are dropped, and the template renders like a regular "Further" link. If the main link is blue because the English page name is a redirect and not an article, the interwiki links are retained, and the blue link is tagged as a redirect.

== Parameters ==

This template accepts the following parameters:

;Positional:
* <code>1</code> {{snd}} the page on English Wikipedia. This must be a red link, or a [[Template:R with possibilities|redirect with possibilities]]. (If it isn't, use {{tl|Further}} instead.) Required.
* <code>2</code> and <code>3</code> - the [[m:Template:List of language names ordered by code|language code]] and page to link to on a [[m:Table of Wikimedia projects|sister Wikipedia]]. Required. Links to sections are automatically formatted as ''page § section'', rather than the MediaWiki default of ''page#section''.
* <code>4</code> and <code>5</code> - another lang-code and page to link to on a foreign wikipedia. Optional. If 5 is missing, {{tl|Interlanguage link}} supplies the same value as the English topic in param 1.
* <code>6</code> and <code>7</code> - a third code + page pair, to link a foreign Wikipedia article. Optional. If 7 is missing, it takes the value from param 1.

* <code>lt</code>{{snd}}as for {{tl|Interlanguage link}}, the {{para|lt}} parameter (which stands for "link text") is used to create a [[wikipedia:WP:PIPE|piped link]]. Alias: {{para|label}}.

To create a [[wikipedia:WP:piped link|piped link]] (text displayed that is different from the title of the page to which the text links), use the {{para|lt}} parameter (which stands for "link text").

===Vertical alignment===

The default vertical alignment of the bracketed interlanguage links is superscript.  This can be altered by adding:
* <code><nowiki>vertical-align=sub</nowiki></code> to place the links in subscript
* <code><nowiki>vertical-align=base</nowiki></code> to place the links on the baseline.  Alias: <code><nowiki>vertical-align=none</nowiki></code>

If you only wish to link to an article on a foreign language Wikipedia, without indicating a missing article on English Wikipedia, use {{tl|Further}} instead, prefixing the page name in a foreign Wikipedia with the required [[H:IL|interlanguage code]]:
